Daniel Franklin, Executive Editor, The Economist, Editor, The World in 2012

Daniel Franklin has been Executive Editor of The Economist since June 2006, and Editor of The Economist's annual publication, "The World in..." since 2003. He will open The World in 2011 Gala Dinner by setting out unapologetic predictions for 2012.

Emily Lau, Vice-Chairperson, Democratic Party, Hong Kong SAR

Emily Lau (Wai-hing) is the vice-chairperson of Democratic Party, one of the largest political parties in Hong Kong. She was also the convenor of The Frontier. Ms Lau has been a full-time member of the Legislative Council since 1991.

Eric Whitacre, Composer

Eric Whitacre is a distinguished composer, conductor and public speaker. He has written for the London Symphony Chorus and Orchestra, Chanticleer, The King’s Singers and the BBC Proms, among others.

Achal Agarwal, President, North Asia Region, Kimberly-Clark

Achal has responsibility for Kimberly-Clark’s consumer businesses in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Japan. He also spent 14 years with PepsiCo International, where he served as General Manager for Sub Sahara, and as COO for Greater China.

Chip Tsao, Columnist and Broadcaster

Prior to becoming a columnist and broadcaster in Hong Kong, Chip Tsao was a producer of BBC World Service during the Cold War, and deputy editor of Eastern Express during the last colonial years in Hong Kong.

Yves Daccord, Director-General, International Committee of the Red Cross

In his 20-year career with the ICRC, Yves held many positions in the field – in Israel and the occupied and autonomous territories, Sudan and Yemen. The former journalist then moved to headquarters, where he was appointed director-general in 2010.

William Roedy, Former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, MTV Networks International

Bill Roedy was the architect behind MTV Networks International’s successful localisation model. During his 22 years with the organisation Bill oversaw all of MTV Networks’ international channels and multimedia business operations.

Geoffrey Tabin, Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Director of International Ophthalmology, John A Moran Eye Center and University of Utah

Geoffrey Tabin is a Professor of Ophthalmology and author of “Blind corners-Adventures on Everest and the World’s Tallest Peaks”. He also co-founded the Himalayan Cataract Project which strives to eradicate preventable and curable blindness.
